Steve Cotter draws from a diverse background as a champion athlete and cutting-edge trainer in developing some of the most exciting programs in strength and conditioning today. Cotter shares his years of experience as a martial artist, world-class athlete, and fitness coach in designing and supervising programs for those who take their training seriously. He is the founder and director of the International Kettlebell and Fitness Federation (IKFF) and an international lecturer and teacher in more than 40 countries. Enhanced Edition is a must have...

Own both editions of this book... the enhanced edition of this book which has Mr. Cotter demonstrating each technique through short video demonstrations is much better. His technique is flawless... and as it goes... a picture is worth ten thousand words.

Great book on kettlebell training

If you are looking for a book on Kettlebell training, this is a good one to pick up. I've been using a kettlebell off and on for two years now, mainly just using the swing. Cotter offers basic, intermediate, and advanced exercises that will give you more bang for your kettlebell buck. You can really do a complete workout and be ready to go.

Least favorite thing: Don't have two kettlebells . . . to do everything that he offers in the book you need multiple kettlebells.

Most favorite thing: Love the routined workouts at the end that target specific types of sports and athletes. Not comprehensive, but a great start.

Effective Primer for Beginners, Advanced, and Athletes

Steve Cotter's Kettlebell Training is a comprehensive kettlebell guide full of clear, professional-quality photographs. In the introduction he explains the advantages of kettlebells over dumbbells and barbells (leverage, grip, high-rep position, etc.). He explains why a weight belt is good for kettlebell training (imagine doing 10 minutes straight of kettlebell clean and jerks, for example).

He explains many safety techniques including warm-ups and the importance of chalk so that your grip doesn't slip.

For me, the most important part is the correct squat technique in which you practice without a kettlebell while keeping your back vertical. You do this facing a wall so that you don't lean into the wall. Then you can do the correct squats and kettlebell swings without a wall in front of you while still keeping your back vertical AT ALL TIMES. Before I did my squats, deadlifts, and swings correctly, I tweaked my back 3 times, each time not being able to walk for a week. Since using the correct technique, which I first learned watching a Bob Harper kettlebell DVD, I have not hurt my back.

After the safety and warm-up section, there are exercises for beginners, intermediate, advanced, custom programs, and sport-specific workouts.

The only limitation of this finely produced book in my experience is that it is better, in the absence of a professional instructor guiding you through the moves, to use videos and it's more clear to see "bodies in action" than to read instructions with still photos.

Nevertheless, Kettlebell Training is a comprehensive guide for the beginner and advanced trainer alike.

their lust is an expression of love – love between husband and wife

Human beings are sexual creatures and having sexual desires is totally normal. With that general definition of humanity out of the way, it can be assumed that everyone is capable of sexual fantasies at some point in his or her life. So, why shouldn't this also be true of the frum (Jewish religiously observant) community?

The characters in these four short stores have very strong desires, but the erotic thoughts that play through their minds and across their bodies are presented without succumbing to the depravities of pornography. Instead, their lust is an expression of love – love between husband and wife, between bride and groom. There is romance here, along with the yearning for physical pleasure. Observant Jewish men and women are capable of intimacy and these stories are an acceptable stage for their passionate interactions.

There is only one thing wrong in this collection, and that is it ended all too quickly. The author clearly is capable of telling compelling erotic tales. These stories only serve to whet one's appetite for more.

What a wonderful author in an exciting yet overlooked genre! I really enjoyed Shosha's prose, as well as her versatility in her choices of subjects of and characters for her short stories. She has written Jewish erotica with a light and elegant touch of fetish, delicately incorporating themes of exhibitionism, rape, toys and cuckoldry - all within the loving confines of a committed relationship. I look forward eagerly to her next installment.

About the Author
Steven C. Frautschi joined the California Institute of Technology faculty in 1962 and became professor emeritus in 2006. His publication list includes 80 research papers on the theory of high energy physics, and the book 'Regge Poles and S- Matrix Theory'. He has served as Master of Student Houses and has won three student teaching awards.

Richard P. Olenick is currently the chair of Department of Physics at University of Dallas. He was Associate Project Director of the PBS Series The Mechanical Universe and Beyond the Mechanical Universe, which accompanied this textbook and its successors. He has received numerous grants from the National Science Foundation and the U.S. Department of Education for his work in physics education. His current project is C3P, which developed an inquiry-based curriculum for high school physics. In 1995, Dr Olenick was named Texas Professor of the Year by the Carnegie Foundation and in 1997, he was named a Minnie Piper Steven Professor. In 2003, he became the Nancy Cain Marcus and Jeffrey A. Marcus Chair in Science and in 2005 he received the King Award from the University of Dallas, which is the highest honor the University can bestow on a faculty member.

Tom M. Apostol joined the California Institute of Technology faculty in 1950 and is now Professor of Mathematics, Emeritus. He is internationally known for his textbooks on Calculus, Analysis, and Analytic Number Theory, which have been translated into 5 languages, and for creating Project MATHEMATICS!, a series of video programs that bring mathematics to life with computer animation, live action, music, and special effects. The videos have won first-place honors at a dozen international video festivals, and have been translated into Hebrew, Portuguese, French, and Spanish. His list of publications includes 98 research papers, 46 of them published since he retired in 1992. He has received several awards for his research and teaching. In 1978 he was a visiting professor at the University of Patras in Greece, and in 2000 was elected a Corresponding Member of the Academy of Athens, where he delivered his inaugural lecture in Greek.

Dr. David L. Goodstein is Vice Provost and Professor of Physics and Applied Physics at the California Institute of Technology, where he has been on the faculty for over 35 years. In 1995, he was named the Frank J. Gilloon Distinguished Teaching and Service Professor. In 1999, Dr Goodstein was awarded the Oersted Medal of the American Association of Physics Teachers, and in 2000, the John P. McGovern Medal of the Sigma Xi Society. He has served on and chaired numerous scientific and academic panels, including the National Advisory Committee to the Mathematical and Physical Sciences Directorate of the National Science Foundation. He is a founding member of the Board of Directors of the California Council on Science and Technology. His books include States of Matter and Feynman's Lost Lecture, written with his wife, Dr. Judith Goodstein. In the 1980s, he was Director and host of The Mechanical Universe television program.

An clear presentation of mechanics

I saw the excellent Mechanical Universe Television series while I was in high school and I recently purchased this book. I've just finished reading this book and am simultaneously doing problems in Schaum 3000 Physics problems. This is a great reader to use as it puts the physics in the historical context and traces the reasoning these great scientists used in inducing their conclusions in the first place. The explanations are mostly very clear. Some of the historical interpretations are questionable but they do not detract from the overall value of the historical approach. This is how all physics should be taught.

A Marvelous and Timeless Intro to Physics (and Calculus)

This book may be older than my college-age daughter, but it's still one of the best introductions to elementary physics that you'll find anywhere. Marvelously readable, the authors do a wonderful job of interweaving historical context for the development of the ideas with lucid explanations of the modern understanding.

Be aware that calculus is sprinkled liberally throughout. Fortunately, the authors introduce and explain the calculus they use, and they do it in a way that is not only easy and painless; you actually begin to see why modern physics would not be possible without calculus.

With its highly readable explanations and historical perpective, this book might make a good back-up text for a college student taking Intro Physics. It's also suitable as the backbone of an advanced high school course where the instructor desires to incorporate calculus. In fact, there was a TV series that closely follows the text, minus the calculus, and is targeted at high school students. You can still find it on DVD and VHS (although not from Amazon) but you'll pay $450 to $500 for all 26 (maybe 28?) hours.

Finally, it's perfect if you (like me) went to school too many years ago and would just like to refresh your knowledge of the subject. I know a lot of amateur astronomers who fit in that category! As a bonus, you get a refresher course in calculus along the way.

Note that there is a second volume that dives into electromagnetism as well as quantum mechanics at the same introductory level. There is also an "advanced" version of this book that I have not looked at. Judging from the table of contents, however, it appears to be the same basic material slightly re-organized.

Highly recommended.

Must have for new cheerleaders

I bought this book to help my almost 12 year old prepare for 7th grade cheer. She is not a reader so the pictures and detailed instructions for stunts and such are perfect for her. This book has given her the added confidence needed to continue on in cheer and she feels that she will be better prepared for cheer camp this summer and next years cheer team. She has dreams of being cheer captain and this book has helped her learn what is required to be the best for the job. I am pleased to have purchased such a detailed book for my up and coming cheer girl!

My daughter has been in all star cheer for 3 years. This is the first year she has been selected as a flyer on a level 3 team. She was getting a lot of pressure and is herself, a perfectionist. I bought her this book so she can understand the technique and also gain knowledge on what she's supposed to do and to understand what her bases are doing so she's not afraid to trust them as they are throwing her in the air. She's only 10 and the pictures are a great visual for her.

Essential Reading for the Christus Victor View

According to The Nature of the Atonement: Four Views, this book is the classic explanation and defense of the Christus Victor view of the atonement. I wanted to learn more about this view, so I bought and read this book.

At first, I was quite disappointed with what I read. It was not at all what I wanted or expected. Aulen wrote correctly when, near the beginning of his second chapter when he explains how he will proceed, wrote, "This method of procedure may seem surprising..." Yes, it definitely was that... and as a result, almost caused me to put down the book and stop reading. But I am glad I persevered.

By appearances, the book is little more than a long, historical survey of the doctrine of the atonement, showing how various views of the atonement have been developed over time and in response to various events within the church and the surrounding culture. This is Aulen's "surprising" approach.

For myself, I did not want an historical survey of the doctrine of the atonement, but an explanation and defense of the Christus Victor view. But Aulen provided the second by doing the first.

Frankly, this caused me to frequently get frustrated with his approach. "Just explain the view!" I wanted to yell. But I ended up getting a decent explanation of the view and a history lesson to boot.

As it turns out, the history lesson was important, for it shows why the Christus Victor view fell out of favor among church theologians for nearly 1700 years, but is now beginning to make a bit of a comeback.

And I, for one, say this comeback is long past due.

Great stuff!

A purely historical account of the way various thinkers, from Irenaeus to Luther and others, approached the question of why Jesus? The book is written in the form of several academic lectures given by Aulen and so may be rather inaccessible to those who aren't familiar with academic literature. The work is not an apology of the Christus Victor/Classic View and also not a critique of the 'Latin View' or penal substitution.

Read with an open and receptive mind and discover nuanced beliefs of the early church fathers on why Jesus came to die.
