A must have

units histories. The read will like the training and deployments of these units that fought in all theaters. After reading I came to the conclusion that the majority of these unit served on the russian front and were in the thick of the fightinging all the time. To bad alot of them were destroyed there, many did true to make it to the western allied side. A clear book worth having

This book covers all German heer Sturmgeschutze units, but not Waffen-SS. Now that is only book about this subjekt in English (not included detailed unit histories). Book has a lot of interesting pictures, includ photografs all Knight Cross holders in sturmgeschutz units, but some of them have wrong captions.

About the Author
Dr. Gary Rockswold has taught mathematics for 25 years at all levels from seventh grade to graduate school, including junior high and high school students, talented youth, vocational, undergraduate and graduate students, and adult education classes. He graduated with majors in mathematics and physics from St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He received his Ph.D. in applied mathematics from Iowa State University. He has an interdisciplinary background and has also taught physical science, astronomy, and computer science. Outside of mathematics, he enjoys spending time with his wife and two children.

This book couldn't be made worse if it summoned demons while you read it because that would make it actually useful.

I was going to wait until the end of the semester to write my review for this book, which I rented for a college algebra course, but I am so furious I can't wait. This book is useless. Absolutely, fundamentally and thoroughly useless. I would say it's not worth the paper it's printed on, but I rented the kindle version so I'll just say it's not worth the fossil fuel burned to display it. It's so poorly written that what I learned in less than 10 minutes in a Kahn Academy video took me over three hours of consideration in this book. The problems are too many to list, but the critical flaws with this book lie in the fact it uses extremely dense and complicated language, non-linear logic and messy page lay-outs with random information blurbs all over the place to communicate what are ultimately simple concepts. I have no idea who wrote this book but they need to be fired like yesterday. Sometimes the most important concepts are highlighted in red, sometimes they're off in the margins as if they don't matter at all, and sometimes a problem is presented with absolutely no introduction, and then solved with no explanation, and you're left stranded as the text barrels ahead with the next concept. The problems in the exercises stumped even the kind people who work in the tutoring center at my school, and have no correlation with the problems explained in the chapters. Meanwhile, the answer key has a hodgepodge of presentations of answers, some solved down to a number, others left as a ratio, with no rhyme or reason and none of the answers are explained. In fact, they're carelessly presented as a dense block of text with the number of the problem and then their answer next to it- which I can only count as insult to injury because they clearly never considered students with ADHD or dyslexia when they formatted this book.

Which brings me to the issue of usability, of which this book has NONE as a digital version. It's formatted like a PDF of a textbook page, portrait layout and all, meaning you have to scroll all over the place just to read the tiny type on their incredibly messy pages. It's a frustrating journey of clicks, drags and losing your place when you attempt to read it, which indicates to me that they put absolutely no thought AT ALL into how real humans interact with their kindles, phones or computers. Additionally, the way the text is formatted is nightmare to highlight or interact with. Highlighting one line of problems will often highlight random parts of another problem, and the utterly baffling floating blurbs can be accidentally highlighted in an attempt to highlight lines between paragraphs.

TL;DR: This book is a sadistic joke. Don't buy it. Learn what you need to know from Kahn Academy.

First off, I used amazon's rental on this. The book was delievred within time and was satified with the seller and the book itself. If you are wanting to save money, may I suggest going to the pearson web site and just simply purchasing the on line access becuase all of your homework is done on line through that access. There really is no need to have a book. pearson charges 90.00 or so for access.

In his latest work, renowned Israeli author and academic Pappe (A History of Modern Palestine) does not mince words, doing Jimmy Carter one better (or worse, depending on one's point of view) by accusing Israel of ethnic cleansing and crimes against humanity beginning in the 1948 war for independence, and continuing through the present. Focusing primarily on Plan D (Dalet, in Hebrew), conceived on March 10, 1948, Pappe demonstrates how ethnic cleansing was not a circumstance of war, but rather a deliberate goal of combat for early Israeli military units led by David Ben-Gurion, whom Pappe labels the "architect of ethnic cleansing." The forced expulsion of 800,000 Palestinians between 1948-49, Pappe argues, was part of a long-standing Zionist plan to manufacture an ethnically pure Jewish state. Framing his argument with accepted international and UN definitions of ethnic cleansing, Pappe follows with an excruciatingly detailed account of Israeli military involvement in the demolition and depopulation of hundreds of villages, and the expulsion of hundreds of thousands of Arab inhabitants. An accessible, learned resource, this volume provides important inroads into the historical antecedents of today's conflict, but its conclusions will not be easy for everyone to stomach: Pappe argues that the ethnic cleansing of Palestine continues today, and calls for the unconditional return of all Palestinian refugees and an end to the Israeli occupation. Without question, Pappe's account will provoke ire from many readers; importantly, it will spark discussion as well.

A Must read in order to understand the Arab-Israeli conflict

A very interesting and well-researched book, full of references, on the events around the establishment of the State of Israel and the so-called “War of Independence” around 1948. At about that period, while the Zionist project was in no military danger, the Israeli militias were busy making a Jewish majority by ethnic cleansing the mostly defenseless Palestines, destroying village after village following years of meticulous planning, intelligence gathering with ruthless and murderous viciousness.

All corroborated by letters, diary and memories of individuals involved in this enterprise, all currently highly praised Israeli “founding fathers”, led by David Ben-Gurion.

I highly recommend for anyone who wants to understand the causes of the largest of the current Middle Eastern conflicts.

Of course, the author is an Israeli scholar, not a "Palestine with dubious credibility”.

Two wrongs don't make a right.

This is the scoop on what really happened to the Palestinians not long after Jews had suffered in the Holocaust. Militant Zionists cleansed Palestinians from the places the Zionists wanted their people to settle, basically forcing the Palestinians to endure similar persecution than Jews had previously endured, but the Palestinians lost their homes, art, land, farms, businesses, books and more (including a great many lives) and it seems there will be no reparations to those who lost their homes, possesions or their family members... The book was written by a Israeli born Jewish man named Ilan Pappe. He is a scholar who wrote this book after painstakingly scouring and researching declassified Israeli intelligence reports from the era the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians took place. It's a very seriously disturbing book, but a needed clarification of history that has not been told or even accepted as fact, which is very sad.

Depersonalization is a dissociative disorder, causing alteration in the perception or experience of the self and a detachment from reality. This is a fascinating and clinically relevant phenomenon neglected within psychiatry. Doctor, I am so glad you have read this, I have chronic DP/DR

I have struggled with this from childhood and have fought my way through the mental health system for about 35 years. I am now 50. I thought I was one of about 4 people in the world who had this, per SO many professionals, until the internet, when all of us came out of the woodwork to see we were not alone.

I am furious with the medical profession, and tremendously grateful for Dr. Sierra's work. I beg that all mental health professionals become aware of this, ASAP.

If I could I would buy copies for every psychiatrist/therapist I've ever seen who "doesn't get it" or those who have told me to "get over it." Medical residents have absolutely no clue about it though it is a common symptom of panic attacks. Neurologists are very informed about DP/DR. What happened to the study of neurology in psychiatry? One current medical resident who has seen me doesn't even understand what deja-vu is. How is that possible?

I'm sorry I am so angry, but now feel vindicated. Again thank you Dr. Sierra for your tireless efforts. For the first time in my life I have a grain of hope that all DP/DR sufferers will not be neglected or dismissed any more. I was thrilled when "Feeling Unreal" came out, but I feel this will have a far greater impact on the medical community, PLEASE.

Also, all psychiatrists out there -- anti-psychotics may help some of us, but in many cases (including my own) they can cause DP/DR to become unbearable.

The best book yet on depersonalization

Depersonalization is a symptom that is completely private; it has no observable signs. During chronic depersonalization, one's emotional connection to body, self, and world vanishes. One's normal background sense of aliveness is replaced with a pervasive, muzzy numbness. One feels distant and disconnected from one's thoughts, actions, emotional reactions, and body sensations -- indeed, from everything that one is experiencing. This is a very unpleasant state.

Although depersonalization is the third most common psychiatric symptom (after anxiety and depression), it has received little attention until recently. At present, there are two major depersonalization research teams -- one in New York and the other in London. This book is written by the leader of the London team at King's College's Institute of Psychiatry -- Mauricio Sierra. Dr. Sierra is probably the world's leading scholar and researcher of depersonalization.

The prevalence of depersonalization disorder (DPD), the most chronic and severe form of depersonalization, is about 1%. Although this prevalence is comparable to that of schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, DPD is sorely under-diagnosed (Read: routinely misdiagnosed). The average person with DPD spends 12 years in the mental health system before receiving the correct diagnosis. Sierra attributes this to three factors. First, "most psychiatrists are still trained to believe that depersonalization disorder is extremely rare or non-existent" (p. 3). Second, psychiatrists' standard mental status examination contains no questions about depersonalization. Third, persons with DPD have difficulty describing their peculiar experiences and are often reluctant to disclose them (for fear of being thought to be 'crazy').

The onset of depersonalization disorder typically occurs during adolescence. It is usually chronic and is frequently associated with other psychiatric disorders (especially panic disorder and social anxiety disorder). Its most frequent predisposing factors and triggers are acute stress or trauma, illicit use of certain drugs, the presence of an anxiety disorder, and a childhood history of emotional abuse.

DPD has long been thought to be substantially untreatable. Sierra, however, provides a detailed description of the ways that DPD is beginning to respond to both psychotherapy and medication. Clearly, Sierra intends this book for clinicians and researchers. It is an excellent book that advances the field.

Finally, although this book is not aimed at those who suffer from DPD, the book may be of considerable interest to them as well. If nothing else, this superb little volume may serve as a guide and an encouragement to patients who have been contending with mental health professionals who are clueless about DPD (as is unfortunately the case in many instances).

Depersonalization:A New Look at a Neglected Syndrome

I am a trained and Board Certified (in the US) Psychiatrist, with 11 years of experience. I was shocked to see that Depersonalization Disorder is such a common syndrome, and one about which so much is known, as Dr. Sierra, a true expert in the topic, brilliantly explains, in this "little" gem of a book (it can easily be read in a week or less). His knowledge about the syndrome is wide and deep. His respect for the topic and the reader are evident throughout the book, in things such as how well referenced, how clear and easy to read, and how up to date it is. From epidemiology to diagnosis, from neurobiology to pharmacological and psychotherapeutic approaches, everything you want to know (and more) about Depersonalization is here. The other shocking thing is to see how truly neglected (as the title says) this syndrome has been. Thanks to this book, I will now have Depersoalization more present when I am doing my diagnostic evaluations. This book is another proof (as if more were needed) that it behooves American and European Psychiatries to communicate more and to learn more from each other(some of that is already happening, increasingly so).
