Bedmates is as good as or better than any other fictional study of antisocial personality ever written

I am nearly finished with Bedmates and blown away by it. Yes, Jess C. Scott is a personal friend of mine, and that diminishes the trust level for some readers of this review, but I still need to say what needs to be said about this book.
The intensity is amazing. The reader spends a lot of time in the heads of two deeply disturbed teenagers who are likeable in ways but whose darkness is shown so unflinchingly that one wants to look away. One might caption this "American Psycho but with teenagers," but that would not do justice to the incredibly detailed study of the development of abnormal psychology, presented times two since there are two twins, a male and a female.
The coldness with which Tania and Trevor Wilde look at the world and people in it, the kind of shallowness of their attachments to everyone other than each other, their casual perspectives upon sex, violence, and drugs, all are deeply upsetting and equally fascinating. Sometimes they seem too perceptive or sophisticated for their ages, but very bright teenagers can be brilliant and warped in this way. I work with teenagers, and I find the story believable in that way.
The writing style is complex, detail-oriented, nuanced, textured, sophisticated.
Bedmates is upsetting and painful to read, but it is also is a tremendous achievement, a work of literature that is as good as or better than any other fictional study of antisocial personality ever written. I am well-schooled in reading and interpreting literature; it's a big part of my profession. I'm telling you -- this book is the real deal. I wouldn't say that if I didn't believe it. I don't write a review this strong for everything I read, or even for everything by Jess C. Scott. This book is superb.
